Non-recursive method for Deriving uncorrelated Discriminants

چکیده
Recently recursive algorithm has been used in getting Fisher criterion based linear discriminants through which the features obtained are statistically uncorrelated. This paper investigates a simpler and faster approach to compute uncorrelated discriminants. This is done by first mapping the input data onto an uncorrelated feature space and computing Fisher criterion based discriminants in that space. By avoiding recursive procedure, our algorithm is (C − 1)/2 times faster than recursive algorithm when the number of classes C is large. Theoretical formulation and real world data confirmed the effectiveness of our approach.

Acoustic Modelling Using Kernel-Based Discriminants
In this paper we use kernel-based Fisher Discriminants (KFD) for classification by integrating this method in a HMM-based speech recognition system. We translate the outputs of the KFD-classifier into conditional probabilities and use them as production probabilities of a HMM-based decoder for speech recognition. To obtain a good performance also in terms of computational complexity the Recursi...
متن کاملComputing consecutive-type reliabilities nonrecursively
The reliability of consecutive-type systems has been approached from different angles. We present a new method for deriving the generating functions and reliabilities of various consecutive-type systems. Our method, which is based on Feller’s run theory, is easy to implement, and leads to both recursive and non-recursive formulas for the reliability. The non-recursive expression is especially a...
متن کاملDiscriminants of Twentieth-Century Changes in Earth Surface Temperatures
An approach to identifying climate changes is presented that does not hinge on simulations of natural climate variations or anthropogenic changes. Observed interdecadal climate variations are decomposed into several discriminants, mutually uncorrelated spatiotemporal components with a maximal ratio of interdecadal-to-intradecadal variance. The dominant discriminants of twentieth-century variati...
متن کاملA Recursive Approximation Approach of non-iid Lognormal Random Variables Summation in Cellular Systems
Co-channel interference is a major factor in limiting the capacity and link quality in cellular communications. As the co-channel interference is modeled by lognormal distribution, sum of the co-channel interferences of neighboring cells is represented by the sum of lognormal Random Variables (RVs) which has no closed-form expression. Assuming independent, identically distributed (iid) RVs, the...
متن کاملUpdates for Nonlinear Discriminants
A novel training algorithm for nonlinear discriminants for classification and regression in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHSs) is presented. It is shown how the overdetermined linear leastsquares-problem in the corresponding RKHS may be solved within a greedy forward selection scheme by updating the pseudoinverse in an order-recursive way. The described construction of the pseudoinverse ...
